Vil'velas of House Starym is a Waterdhavian gold elven wizard currently residing in New Tilverton, in The Dalelands. An adventurer by trade, he is also an accomplished painter, architect, and engineer, and has been, at times a cartographer, a historian, a naturalist, a herald, and a theologian. He has dabbled in both poetry and prose, but showed little flair for those arts. Still, highest among his arts is The One.
Lineage and Childhood
Vil'velas' mother, Hallarué, is a direct descendant of Ysmyrl'da Starym, mother of the great Josidiah Starym. Though she lacks the magical talent of her ancestor, she remains the successor to her legacy. She lives still in her family's estate near Taltempla. Vil'velas spent much of his childhood there, with her, before moving to Waterdeep with his father.
Uldreiyn Durothil fathered several children with Hallarué, but was not her first lover. Her eldest daughter Ilyntra was born out of wedlock with her childhood love, her own cousin Van'daelin. Though he went into self-imposed exile to hide her shame, it was known, but never spoken of, that her first child was not the product of her arranged marriage to Uldreiyn.Theirs was never an impassioned marriage, simply a duty they both performed. She bore three children by him, of which Vil'velas is the middle child. The oldest of Uldreiyn's two sons is Marsa'al, and his only daughter is Kalinn.
In 1266, Uldreiyn moved to Waterdeep. He had long expressed interest in moving away from Evermeet, but his wife would hear none of it. She eventually consented to him moving away, but not any of the children. When he did so, she claimed all the children as her own, and acted as if she were no longer bound to him in any way.
Marsa'al left in 1284, chafing under his mother's dominance much like his father did. He moved in with his father in Waterdeep, seeking training in the professions of civilized men, in order to start his own life. He took his father's name, Durothil, as his own.
Vil'velas was fond of his mother, but he, too, found himself increasingly resentful of her domineering ways. Rather than flee from her clutches like her other son, he gradually convinced her that it would be wise for his education if he were to study in the various schools of The Sword Coast. This was not a task easily done; it took him until 1334, his 113th year, to first set foot on the continent of {{Faerun}}.
